Today I am posting a Cleaning Calendar for the month of April. It has been a work in progress since we started the series, and finally finished it this morning. I hope you find the file helpful.

April Monthly Cleaning Calendar (size 87.1 KiB) (hits 21)

When doing a quick clean or a deep cleaning, have a basket so you can remove items that don’t belong in each room. This is great if you have kids and they leave their stuff around, you can have them put the items away while your cleaning.

The list below consists of:  [you can download the form at the bottom]

The Kitchen:

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Remove items that don’t belong in the kitchen [put in basket]
Clean up all dishes
Wipe down appliances
Wipe down the counters/table and sink
Spot clean walls
Empty trash
Sweep/mop/vacuum the floor [as needed]
Put items in basket away

The Pantry:

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Straighten items on shelves
Wipe marks on shelves
Toss out outdated food
Sweep/mop/vacuum the floor [as needed]

The Dining area:

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Remove items that don’t belong, put in basket
Check the table cloth, change out if needed
Straighten sideboard/cabinet put items away
Wipe furniture
Empty trash
Sweep/mop/vacuum the floor [as needed]
Put items away in basket

The Living-room:

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Remove any items that don’t belong
Straighten out any clutter
Straighten furniture, pillows, throws, etc.
Quick dust as needed
Empty trash

Put away items in basket

The Linen Closet:

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Fold items that are messed up
Return any items out of place
Clean up marks on shelves

Hall/Entry Way

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Remove items that don’t belong
Put away jackets/mitten/boots/umbrella/etc
Clean bench/chair/etc
Wipe door handles
Empty any trash
Sweep/mop/vacuum [as needed]
Put items away that don’t belong

Bathroom

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Pick up the clothes put in hamper
Clean and straighten counters
Clean and wipe the mirror, facet and commode handle
Clean the commode/tub/shower
Sweep and mop the floor if needed
Empty Trash
Put away items put in the basket

Bedroom Closet

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Straighten clothes
Straighten shoes
Empty hamper

Bedroom

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Pick up/put away clothes and shoes [fold/hang/hamper]
Make bed
Straighten up dresser[s]
Quick dust furniture [as needed]
Pick up and empty trash
Quick vacuum
Put away items in basket

Laundry Room

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
Throw in a load and/or separate in bins
Clean counter and sink
Wipe down washer and dryer
Clean the link trap
Toss out any empty containers
Sweep floor

Office

Check ceiling for cobwebs, remove
File loose papers/recycle junk mail
Pay bills due
Dust furniture
Straighten shelves

Let’s start with the desk. Remove and file any and all paperwork out of place. If you are looking for easy filing checklists, see Filing made easy

Clean the computer if it is sitting on the desk before you return your accessories. Dust off your desk accessories, then the desk. If you need to clean out desk drawers and toss/donate what you don’t need. Wipe the inside.

Remove the pictures/decor off the walls. Take down the curtains and launder them accordingly. Wipe the curtain rod with a damp cloth.

If you have a book shelf in the office, remove all items from the shelves and top. Dust the books/items and then clean the shelf. Start at the top and work your way down. When the shelf is empty, pull out from the wall and clean underneath. You might want to wash the wall behind the book shelf when it is away from the wall.

Now on to the ceiling and cobwebs. Wash the ceiling if needed and touchup paint. Working your way down the walls, remember the windows, frames and windowsills. Don’t forget the baseboards. Clean the air ducts.

Depending on what furniture you have in the room, dust and polish. If there are table lamps, vacuum the shades and wipe the base.

When you’re done with cleaning everything, vacuum/wash the floor.

Let’s get onto the Laundry room!

Start from the ceiling down.  Clean up the light fixture and clean the light bulb, or replace as needed.

Vacuum and wash the ceiling and then onto the walls, the door frame and the windows if you have one.

Make sure to pull out your washer and drier to clean behind them, and check the waterlines and clean out the vent hose, or replace if it is full of lint if you aren’t able to clean it out!

My washer and dryer are stacked and I can’t pull them out, so I take a yard stick and a old rag and clean the best I can underneath. If it is really dusty I have to wait for my husband to pull them out.

Don’t forge the folding counter/table and the sink.

Laundry Room Cleaning (size 76.3 KiB) (hits 6)

Now is a great time to change/wash your bed comforter. I have a few different duvet covers so I wash the comforter inside the duvet cover and when dry I put it in the spring cover.  Take off the sheets and mattress pad, flip the mattress if needed and let it air.  I like to spray mine with Lysol and let it air all day.

I put all my jewelry in the bathroom and start cleaning it with my jewelry cleaner.  Clean it according to the recommended time on the instructions and remove.  Rinse the jewelry.  I like to lay my jewelry on a towel to dry.  Clean the jewelry box.

Take down all pictures/decor off the walls, and clean.  Take down the curtains and launder.  I have a large tv hanging on the wall, so I dust and wipe with a damp rag then cover with a towel so I can dust and wash the ceiling and walls.

If you are going to clean out your dressers, now is a good time.  Take everything out of your dresser, organize according to item and clean the drawers.

Start at the ceiling and remove any cobwebs.  Wash the light and globes if you have a light on the ceiling.  If not, clean the lamps when you are cleaning the tables next to the bed.  Wipe the light bulbs and the lamp body and base.  Check the cords to make sure they are in good working condition.

Now wash the walls and the baseboards in the room.  Don’t forget the door and the door frame.

Depending on where the air ducts are in your house, clean them as you go. If they are on the wall, clean when cleaning the wall. If they are on the floor, clean them when you’re cleaning your carpet.

To clean under the bed, I found it best to move the bed.  It was easier them trying to use the extensions to the vacuum.  Now I have drawers under my bed and it is too heavy to move.

Move onto the tops of the bedside tables and clean the lights and anything else you have on top. Now is a good time to recycle any magazine you have in your bedroom.

Dust and polish your dressers, don’t forget the underneath.  Now take care of the rest of the floor.

Other items you might have in your bedroom:  vanity, book shelves, chair, etc.  Clean them at any point before you do the floors.

Bedroom Cleaning (size 79.4 KiB) (hits 14)

Let’s start by taking everything out of the closet. When taking it out, place it according to the item; shirts with shirts, pants with pants, etc. Donate or give away any clothes or shoes that you don’t want or don’t fit. Toss stained clothes or use as rags. If you have a dresser in your closet, clean it out also.

Once everything is removed, take down the rod and use a damp cloth to clean it. If you have shelves, remove if possible and wash.  Remove anything you have hanging on the walls.

Start at the ceiling and dust for cobwebs. Remove the globe on the light and wash, wipe the fixture.  Paint or touch-up the ceiling if needed. Wash the walls, and if you have a window in your closet, clean it and launder the curtain.

Dust and wash both sides of the door and framing.

Vacuum/wash the floor. When you are done, return your clothes and other items to the closet.

Just some of my organizing tips:  I hang my shirts by color and also my pants.  Store shoes by color and style.  Like flip flops, heels, boots, etc.  I also have a few purses and they are stored in plastic containers by color.

I have more than one bedroom closet in the house, so I will be cleaning and sorting all day.

Bedroom Closet Cleaning (size 74.7 KiB) (hits 11)

Tomorrow we hit the bedroom.

Let’s start by removing the carpet, the shower curtain, curtains, and any decor in the bath.  Launder as needed.  Wipe down the rods with a damp cloth, wash the rod hooks.

Clean out the cabinets and the medicine cabinet.  Toss out outdated medication and recycle the bottles.  If you’re crafty you can use the pill bottle to make a chandelier.  Clean the inside and outside of the cabinets.  Reline if needed.

Open the window for ventilation.

Spray the tub/shower with cleaner and let it sit.  Use cleaner in the commode and let it sit while you start with the ceiling and walls.  Remove light globes if possible, and pay special attention to the fan.  Clean the windows and windowsill.

Clean the tile and grout.  If you use a different cleaner in the tub/shower, clean it so you don’t mix the chemicals.  Don’t forget the outside the tub/shower.  Start from the bottom of the tile and work your way up.  This way when the cleaner runs down the tile, there won’t be run marks.  Now is a good time to check the grout and caulk.  Reapply if needed.

Clean the commode. Make sure to clean the outside and check the caulk around the bottom.  If need be, remove the seat and clean the back of the bowl.  Check inside the tank to make sure all is working well.  Don’t forget to disinfect the handle.

Wash the counters and the sink.  Don’t forget the faucet.  For tough buildup around the base of the handles, use a tooth brush and apply ½ vinegar & ½ water mixture.  Check the caulk around the sink, and re-caulk if needed.

Empty the trash and clean the floor!

Bathroom Cleaning (size 82.0 KiB) (hits 11)

Start by removing the furniture and decor if any out, of the area you are cleaning! Like the other rooms, start at the top of the room and work downward. Now is a good time to launder the curtains, and wipe the rod.

If you have a closet in your entry or hall, now is a good time to take everything out and donate items you don’t use/wear. Keep a box handy for donations. Wash the ceiling and walls, also the shelf. Return items to the closet.

If you are able to remove the globes from the light[s] wash. Return when you have finished the ceiling.

I have cathedral ceilings throughout my house, so I am unable to take the globe down in the entry way, so I get out my ladder vacuum the fixture and wipe with a damp cloth.

Wash the walls and return your decor. Make sure to check the hangers to make sure they are secure.

When cleaning your entry door, make sure you follow the instructions that came with the door. My door is older, so I just use a damp cloth.

I have a small carpet that is washable in the washing machine. I shake it outside then toss in the washer. Clean the floor.

Replace items/furniture to the area when finished.

Hallway Entry Way Cleaning (size 74.2 KiB) (hits 9)

If you have dirty dishes, wash them or put them in the dishwasher.  If you use an appliance, wipe it down after each use.  If you use the counter, wipe it when you’re done!

When cleaning rooms I like to have a basket with me to put the items that don’t belong in that room.  Seems I always have items in my kitchen that doesn’t belong there, when I am done with the cleaning, it just takes a few minutes to put the items in the basket in their right place after the kitchen is cleaned!
